Rights to Images of Quranic Manuscripts and Terms of Use

All copyright and other applicable rights in the images of Quranic manuscripts published on this website remain with the museums, libraries, and collections that have authorised their publication. Users must respect these rights and the applicable terms of use established by the respective institutions and collections.

The images of Quranic manuscripts from the National Museum of Iran are the result of the digitisation project of ancient Quranic manuscripts conducted under the collaboration agreement between the National Museum of Iran and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities as part of the Irankoran project. The results of this digitisation project are made available to researchers and interested users under the conditions stipulated in that agreement.

Use of these images is permitted solely for study, research, educational purposes, and display in lectures or classroom settings. Researchers using these images must credit the National Museum of Iran with the phrase “Photo from the Archive of the National Museum of Iran” (© Iran National Museum).

Online publication or republication of these images, including uploading them to other websites or online platforms, as well as the print publication of one or more folios from one or more manuscripts in books, articles, posters, films, videos, or any other medium, requires prior written permission from the National Museum of Iran. Researchers who wish to use such images for publication should contact the Research Department of the National Museum of Iran to obtain the necessary permission.

Commercial use of the images, including their use in postcards, posters, reproductions, catalogues, articles, books, or comparable products, requires prior written permission from the National Museum of Iran and, where applicable, a separate agreement or contract. Unauthorised commercial use or any other use contrary to the applicable rights and terms of use may be subject to legal action under Iranian law and other applicable law.

The metadata, transliterations, transcriptions, and scholarly descriptions of Quranic manuscripts produced by the Irankoran project team are, unless otherwise indicated, made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).

Under this license, users may copy, redistribute, and adapt this material for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the Irankoran project, the source is cited, a link to the license is provided, and any modifications are clearly indicated. Adapted material must be distributed under the same license. The full license terms are available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/.

Commercial use, or any other use not covered by this license, requires prior permission from the Irankoran project. Requests for such permission should be addressed to the Project Director.

Rights in the Design and Technical Realisation of the Irankoran Website

The graphic design, logo, website design, and technical components of the Irankoran website were created by the designers and developers named in the website credits under contractual agreements concluded for the purposes of the Irankoran project.

The respective creators retain their authorship and moral rights, including the right to be identified as the creators of their work, and their contributions are acknowledged by name on this website. Under the relevant contractual agreements, the rights of use necessary for the publication, operation, maintenance, modification, continuation, and further development of these materials were granted for the purposes of the Irankoran project.

The exercise of these contractual rights for Irankoran and its scholarly continuation is coordinated by the Project Director within the scope of the relevant agreements. The graphic design, logo, website design, software, source code, and other technical components are not covered by the Creative Commons license applicable to Irankoran scholarly content. Their reproduction, redistribution, adaptation, or reuse outside the Irankoran website requires prior permission, unless otherwise provided by law or expressly indicated.
